Review ~ A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy

A Week in WinterA Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m rounding this up to 4 stars.

I found this story very interesting but a little disappointed. The story ended quite suddenly, but I’ve rounded up because in researching I found out this author passed away shortly after writing this. So perhaps she didn’t have time to finish it. I guess we’re lucky her husband allowed it to be published.

Until about half way through the story, it was about Chicky. Then it began to go through the lives of different people that are connected and meet at the Stone house, a B & B in Ireland that Chicky bought and opened. it ended without any real wrapping up on Chicky. So that was a bit disconcerting. I really wanted her happy ending, or perhaps her happy ending was the fact she had her dream business and was happy with what she was doing.

I really became attached to Chicky and how she helped change most of her acquaintances’ lives. She was always the voice of reason and a very strongly built character.

It is obvious that this author is an exceptional story teller and I wish I did not read this before I read any of her other works. I will definitely do that now that I have found her stories.

I do recommend this for anyone that wants an interesting story and some really good writing even though it was probably not even finished.
