Love Unscripted by Tina Reber
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I think the premise was good, but not done so well. It felt like real life fan fiction.
The writing felt like it was done for dummies. Seriously. Everything was explained on an elementary level as if the readers wouldn’t understand the descriptions properly right before she has to spell them out.
I wanted to like this a lot, because the idea was cute and the actor, Ryan, was sweet. However, it just seemed like there were too many things against it. It was hard to get into… felt slow, then picked up, and then got slow again. It was too long and could have been told in so many less pages.
I wanted to like it, but with the too many grammar mistakes, the consistent repetition of things, and the having to explain every single thing said was too much. Even common phrases were messed up.
I like my women characters strong and if they’re not to at least grow throughout the book, but Taryn just whined through the whole thing. She was incredibly insecure and I’m not sure how long it takes someone to trust another, but wow… this was way too long.
I think this could have the potential of being an incredible story with a lot of work. With a good re-read, professional edit job, and some plot fixes I would definitely re-read it.
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley.
