NaNoWriMo

October 30, 2012

It’s close… 2 more days and we’ll be tucked away writing our hearts out. We’ll be exhausted, cranky, and most likely non sociable. We may lose inspiration or even the energy to finish … but I like to look at the outcome. 50k words in one month is huge, and will take every spare moment I have, which isn’t much to begin with. But in the end I’ll have a novel … something to work with … perfect and make into something … perhaps even sell one day.

What will I lose by participating? I’ll lose extra time with my family and some sleep. I scoff at that. It’s no different than working on a project for work and having to be at the office every spare moment or being called to the hospital for an emergency surgery, because you’re a doctor or nurse. People’s jobs call them away all the time.

What will I get at the end … a novel. A dream. An accomplishment. I’m so excited to participate this year and it will be my first. So far, I feel prepared.

So to keep us excited and to help us stay focused and find time to write I’ll be assisting in some Word Counts or Write In’s, WC’s. There is tons of information below. If you’d like to join us in the WC’s please follow the info below. There are several ways. There will be kick off parties and giveaways to keep us all motivated.

PTB and IPC have a giveaway for participants in their WC’s

Just because sometimes we need that little bit of incentive to write, every Fandom NaNo WC you participate in counts as an entry into the Scrivener Giveaway. Two winners will be chosen on December 1, 2012.

Scrivener is a powerful content-generation tool for writers that allows you to concentrate on composing and structuring long and difficult documents. While it gives you complete control of the formatting, its focus is on helping you get to the end of that awkward first draft.

~The group chat opens 15 minutes prior to the hour for general discussion before the writing commences.

~So as not to disturb the others writers, we ask for complete silence—no chatting in the group chatroom—during the scheduled hour, unless you need to dropout of the session.

~Sessions may continue for another hour, with an intermission in between to share word counts and allow any withdrawals. Teasers will not be shared to minimize flow interruption.

~Sign-ups for each weekly session ends ten minutes before the starting hour for that day’s scheduled WC, with the last call on Twitter.
